This wetland is the largest and influenced by the city of Llanquihue. It owes its name to the abundance of lotus, an introduced aquatic plant.
The star of the pond, the Lotus, is a colony of Yekos, who have made their home from a tree in the swamp. In addition to Yeko, you will find Pidenes, Tagûitas, different types of herons and other species such as the Chilean frog or Coipos.
As part of an experiment, Bioilhas were installed in April 2018 with the aim of reducing the ecological damage that the eutrophication process is causing. Eutrophication causes the levels of some nutrients to increase and the amount of oxygen to decrease, which contributes to the proliferation of algae that alter the ecosystem and put native species at risk. We hope it will be a success.
